In the commercial titled "Dear Sydney," the neural network writes a letter on behalf of the father of the American athlete, Olympic gold medalist Sydney McLaughlin-Levron.

The very personal content of the letter and the very idea of the ad has drawn widespread criticism. Cryptocurrency exchange Gemini, which was the developer of the chatbot, was accused of downplaying the role of creativity and individuality of a person in communication.

Some wondered why it was not possible to write the message themselves without the help of the chatbot. Professor Shelley Palmer said that such advertising leads to an even greater reliance on artificial intelligence-based apps, less individuality and less diverse ways of communicating.

Who would want an email from a celebrity written by artificial intelligence? - Pop Culture Happy Hour podcast host Linda Holmes wondered.
She called the ad silly and said that such ads raise questions about the validity of personal messages.
Reaction from users on social media was mostly negative, too. Amid such massive criticism, Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL) removed the ads from its Olympic campaign.

And while the ad was tested well before it aired, given the feedback, we decided to phase it out of our rotation for the Olympics," a company spokesperson said.
The ad was indeed removed from the airwaves, but it can still be viewed on YouTube, although comments underneath the clip are disabled.
