A man committed suicide after falling victim to a crypto scam that shocked his family. They learned that he trusted the scammer more than he trusted his own children.

Dennis Jones committed suicide in March this year after giving away his entire life savings to an attacker posing as a woman he met on Facebook named "Jessie."

According to his daughter Adriana, they noticed that the usually sociable and cheerful Jones began to distance himself from the family. They decided to invite him to a meeting to find out what was happening and offer support. However, the meeting did not take place as they were informed of his suicide.

Following his death, his family discovered "heartbreaking" messages he had exchanged with the scammer. His daughter Adriana is upset that her father did not share his problems with his family.

Prosecutor Erin West, who is involved in the fight against crypto scams, said that scammers use “serious psychological tricks” on people.

According to the FBI, crypto scammers stole $5 billion in 2023, of which $3.96 billion came from the pig slaughter scheme. The largest of these scams is the theft of $1 million, part of which ended up on the Binance crypto exchange in the form of USDT stablecoins, and US authorities are currently trying to seize these assets.
